English Literary Identity and the Iberian World
Proposals are invited to consider the impact of Spanish and/or Portuguese
writing, culture, power, and/or expansionism on English Renaissance writers.
Papers may consider questions of literary influence (such as, for example,
the influence of Spanish romances like Amadis), questions of other forms of
influence (Juan Luis Vives, Bartolome de las Casas, Antonio de Guevara's Lo
relox de principes), national, international, religious events such as the
discoveries and conquests, the wars in the Low Countries, or the annexation
of the Portuguese crown. Other related topics welcome. The focus of the
session will be guided by the submissions received. Queries welcome.
Abstracts and short CV should be sent to lockeyb@madrid.sluiberica.slu.edu
