Anthology description:

This anthology hopes to address cutting edge historical and contemporary =
analysis of women's power as depicted in both print (defined as comic =
strips and books, graphic novels, and other widely circulated =
novels/books if put in comparison with cinematic or other print media =
appearing in this list) and film media (television or film). It is =
concerned with the multiple messages about women as powerful, central, =
and/or integral in popular culture (both positive and negative) and how =
these images impact discourses and images of feminism. Both historical =
and contemporary figures and issues will be covered. Of particular =
interest are articles that deal with multiple and mixed messages from a =
single series or genre, ie intersectionality and/or conservative and =
progressive messages in the same venue, as well as articles that address =
Dis/Ability, Race, and/or Sexuality as their primary issue while =
acknowledging all axis of power present in the subject matter addressed. =
Articles dealing with underground genres and international figures are =
also extremely welcome.=20

ALL themes and series fitting description welcome - in addition to =
themes and materials from the original CFP, items of interest include:

Comic Additions: Ranma 1/2, Bubblegum Crisis, Gem, Witchblade (on own or =
compared to tv show)

Female detectives additions: The Monkey's Mask - film and poem, Silence =
of the Lambs, Charlie's Angels, She Spies

Bad Girls additions: Kill Bill Volumes I and II, X-Men, Heathers, =
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Carrie 1 &/or 2

Historical additions: Mists of Avalon (book + film, or film alone), A =
Wrinkle in Time (book + tv series or tv series alone)=20

Camp additions: Princess Bride, Scooby Doo (Daphne and Thelma), any of =
the women in the Austin Powers Series

Articles should be academic, but intended for both an academic and =
general readership. Regardless of theme or thesis, all submissions =
should address feminism and engage feminist methods (all definitions of =
feminism welcome). Equal consideration will be afforded those critically =
engaging camp as a narrative tool and "more serious" narrative styles. =
Analysis of materials is required, please do not send summaries of shows =
or descriptions of comic books, only scholarly work will be printed.
