Panel: Glamour and Modernism
Please send proposals (100-150 words) to cemmerso@u.washington.edu by 5/12/04.
The panel will explore the relationship of glamour-related topics to
modernism, ultimately theorizing the meaning, function, and allure of
glamour in modernity. Of particular interest are projects which require
serious consideration of something that appears to be merely trivial.
Papers may include topics related to:
fashion
film
movie stars
travel/hotel culture
style
manners, rudeness
popular culture
race/gender and glamour
parties, sociability
conversation, gossip
salons
class, money
sexual sophistication
cosmopolitanism
marriage, divorce
flirtation
coquetry
portraiture
