War films frequently highlight the exploits, actions, and heroisms of men,
yet none can deny the involvement and courage of women both at home and at
the front. This panel welcomes papers which seek to demonstrate the
diversity of women’s involvement in war and their depiction in film,
television, and history. Topics might include, but should not be limited to
the following:

All is Fair in Love and War: Women in War Films
Fictional Women and Their Film Representations
Gender Issues in War Films
Military Women in Film
Mothers as Cultural Icons During Wartime
Professional Women in War
Subversive Women in War
Television Wars and Women
The Romance of War
War and the Evening News
War and the Television Sitcom
War as Seen Through the Eyes of Women
War Crimes Against Women
Women at the Front
Women in Classic War Film
Women in the Private or Public Sphere of War

The Film & History League, along with the Literature/Film Association, will
be holding its conference on "War in Film, Television, and History,” at The
Dolce International Conference Center at the Dallas/Fort Worth International
Airport on November 11-14, 2004. Registration information and additional
area topics can be found on the web site www.filmandhistory.org.

Please submit a 250-500 word abstract by July 30, 2004 to Dr. Pat Tyrer,
ptyrer@mail.wtamu.edu Include a your name, address, phone number, email
address, institutional affiliation and a brief biographical paragraph.
