FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS

2nd Open Graduate Students Conference

"Crossing Borders? Inter- and Transdisciplinarity in Theory and Practice"

22-23 October 2004

The Graduate Students Association (GSA) at International University
Bremen invites proposals for papers and workshops for its 2nd Open
Graduate Students Conference.

As an open forum for intellectual exchange and discussion, the
conference aims to continue and increase inter- and transdisciplinary
exchange between young scholars with a variety of research interests and
academic disciplines both from the humanities and social sciences as
well as the natural sciences.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the concepts of inter- and
transdisciplinarity have become fashionable catchphrases, highlighting
the necessity for constant reflection and interchange between formerly
established academic disciplines. Often enough, however, academic
practice makes it all too obvious that the processes of border-crossing
are far from easy.

Thus, while being generally open-topic, the conference also aims to
address the theoretical and conceptual difficulties inherent in these
concepts.

Presentations should be in English and not exceed 20 minutes in length,
allowing time for questions and comments from the audience.

Deadline for submission of abstracts: 31 July 2004

Please send abstracts (of no more than 250 Words) to:
