Call for Papers: Film Area, a long-standing, well-represented area with outstanding past participants.
Southwest/Texas Popular Culture/American Culture Association 26th Annual Conf., held in beautiful Albuquerque, plenty of beach, no ocean, but no hurricanes. :)
The 2005 SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference will meet February 9 - 12, 2005 at the Hyatt Regency Conference Hotel in downtown ABQ. Join us this year, as a returning or first-time participant.
We welcome any aspect of film studies, prospective topics include:
FILM THEORY AND APPLICATION:
*discussions of film history and the classic Hollywood system
*examinations of genre
*technical considerations (sound, wardrobe, setting, etc.)
*application of theory to specific films (feminist, Marxist, deconstruction, etc.)
*international film (Chinese Cinema, Bollywood, etc.)
Special topics include:
*Silent Film
*Japanese Horror Film
*James Bond Film
*The Southwest in Film
*The Sundance Film Festival
FILM ADAPTATION:
*novel to film adaptation
*film to film adaptation
*stage to screen adaptation (excluding Shakespeare)
*video games, songs, and even Disney rides to film adaptation
Special topics include:
*The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
*Harry Potter
FILM PRODUCTION:
New to the film area we'll invite a very select number of short ( < 20 minutes) films to screen at the Conference.
Include a copy of the film on digital media and an abstract with submissions. Selection is limited to perhaps 4-6 screenings, so submit early. No more than two films per participant may be considered and only one per will be admitted.
Conference Rates: Professionals, $135; Graduate students $115; Spouse, partner $65
