Call for Papers: American Literature Association 2005

Deadline: January 1, 2005

The William Dean Howells Society will sponsor two sessions at the American
Literature Association conference on May 26-29 in Boston, MA.

1. Howells and Others
The broadest interpretation of "others" welcome--papers can address
Howells's depiction of others in his fiction and nonfiction, specific books
like _The Whole Family_, comparisons to other writers, or his ghost stories
and statements about an afterlife.

2. The Representation of Masculinity in Howells' Writing
Papers can focus on any aspect of the topic.

Proposals should be sent to Susan Goodman by January 1 at the latest; either
