One-day seminar at the Centre for Women's Studies (CWS), University of
York
Friday February 25th 2005
Part of the FWSA* Postgraduate Seminar Series:
'Where Next for Women's/Gender Studies?'
Call for Papers
Sexuality is a familiar topic in contemporary Women=E2=80=99s/Gender =
Studies and we believe that the beginning of the new millennium is a =
pertinent time to ask whether there is anything left to say on the =
subject. NOT JUST SEXUALITY, the second seminar in the FWSA Postgraduate =
Seminar Series, will offer postgraduates the opportunity to =
re=EF=AC=82ect upon, explore and create diverse vocabularies, meanings, =
and intersections in relation to the theme of sexuality.
Questions for consideration include: How are contemporary debates on =
sexualities being re/con=EF=AC=81gured? What new kinds of sexual =
communities are being imagined? What are the functions of terms such as =
'normality' and 'deviancy' inside and outside Women's/Gender Studies? =
How might we develop the existing critical vocabulary and understandings =
of sexuality? Is it productive to de/re/construct this 'language of =
sexuality'?
CWS seeks submissions from postgraduate students at any stage of their =
studies and work-in-progress is welcome.Proposals are invited on (but by =
no means limited to) the intersections of sexualities with intimacy, =
sensuality, violence, health, technology, visual culture, citizenship, =
family, literature, sex work, queer, ordinariness, age, disability, =
popular culture, celibacy and asexuality. We are pleased to accept =
proposals for the following:
1. individual papers (20mins)
2. workshops (60-90mins)
3. short polemics (5-10mins)
Please note that we are also happy to consider other creative =
suggestions.
Send a 250-word abstract with a short biography to: Karen Coulter, =
Centre for Women's Studies, University of York, York YO10 5DD or email: =
kdc102_at_york.ac.uk.
