Love Unbound: Non-traditional Relationships in Post-Colonial Literature

This call for papers is for a proposed panel to be held at “(dis)junctions:
Theory (Re)Loaded,” the University of California Riverside’s 12th Annual
Humanities Graduate Conference. It will take place April 8-9, 2005. For
more information, visit the website:
http://www.english.ucr.edu/gsea/disjunctions.

It has been said that colonialism has been reflected in the dynamics of love
relationships in Post-Colonial geographies. If this is true, how do
non-traditional relationships within Post-Colonial literature help to
challenge imperial rule? How do audiences in Western society read these
non-traditional relationships, which include:

-Extreme age differences in sexual relationships
-Extra-marital affairs
-Same-sex love relationships (not limited to homosexual identities, but
beyond the homosocial)
-Rape
-Long term heterosexual relationships without marriage
-Open relationships

Abstracts no longer than 250 words should be e-mailed to:
“Plrand25_at_hotmail.com” by January 7, 2005. Please put the text in the body
of the message, not as an attachment.
