(dis)junctions: theory reloaded (april 8-9, 2005)
Stage Beauty: "A woman playing a woman? What's the
trick in that?"

This call for papers is for a proposed panel to be
held at (dis)junctions: theory reloaded at the
University of California Riverside’s 12th Annual
Humanities Conference on April 8-9, 2005.

Richard Eyre’s adaptation of Jeffrey Hatcher’s
Compleat Female Stage Beauty introduces the reader to
a number of interesting characters, while continuously
playing with the history of Restoration theater. How
does this Shakespearean adaptation deal with any of
the following themes:
Performance/Performativity
Gender
Identity
History
Sexuality
Theatricality
