to be presented in either of two sessions at the American Literature
Association's annual meeting in Boston, MA, May 26-29, 2005. All
topics offering new insights into Hawthorne's texts will be considered,
and we are interested both in new contextual work and in alternatives to
historicist approaches. Proposals should take the form of a 200-400
word abstract, and can be submitted either as email attachments or by
mail to: Richard Millington, Department of English, Smith College,
Northampton, MA 01063 (tel. (413) 585-3319); rmilling_at_email.smith.edu.
