Sexuality in Paradise
This call for papers is for a proposed panel to be
held at (dis)junctions: theory reloaded at the
University of California Riverside’s 12th Annual
Humanities Conference on April 8-9, 2005.
“There is nothing to beat this solace which is what
Piedade’s song is about, although the words evoke
memories neither one has ever had: of reaching age in
the company of the other; of speech shared and divided
bread smoking from the fire; the unambivalent bliss of
going home to be at home-- the ease of coming back to
love begun” (Paradise 318).
How does Toni Morrison engage with any of the
following themes in one or more of her texts:
Female communities
Defining/Experiencing love
Gender roles
Violence
Racial purity and/or mixing
Memory
History
