The Krost Symposium The Creative Journey: Creativity at the Intersection
of Art and Science

At various points in history, there have been periods of extraordinary
convergences or parallels between art movements, religion and scientific
discoveries. At those convergent points, by its own means, each discipline
supported the goals of its partner. We can find numerous examples of
convergence over the past centuries; two examples come to mind: the
artist/scientist/inventor da Vinci typified the overlap of art and science
during the Renaissance. The artists who illustrated species during the Age
of Enlightenment created works of art and at the same time helped scientists
understand the world and its inhabitants more thoroughly.

All disciplines engender ideas and theories, theories that are then proved
in those places where the products of the heart, the head and the hand are
set into motion: the laboratory, the stage, the studio. Using their own
unique insights, they render the information they gather into something new
a more complete understanding of the world we live in and the world we are
creating. In this way, each discipline provides a means to explore our
world.

Are we at the dawn of such a convergence today? The 2005 Krost Symposium
The Creative Journey: Creativity at the Intersection of Art and Science
seeks to examine that question.

We invite proposals of all kinds including, but not limited to, papers,
workshops, performance, art installations, scientific experiments, etc. that
address the convergence theme in some way. Proposals that incorporate both
art and science are especially desirable. Proposals from undergraduate and
graduate students will also be considered.

The Krost Symposium is an annual event held on the Texas Lutheran University
campus in Seguin, TX during the month of September. (The specific September
dates for the event this year have not yet been determined. The major events
typically begin on Thursday and conclude on Friday; some events such as
theatre performances and art exhibits may extend through the weekend, or
later.) Krost Symposium devoted to exploring some aspect of The Creative
Journey brings scholars, journalists and others to the TLU campus to
discuss issues of relevance and importance to the community at large. The
Symposium is one component of the Texas Lutheran University Krost Life
Enrichment Program, which is designed to promote spiritual, physical, social
and intellectual development of TLU students, faculty and staff. For
additional information about the Krost Symposium, including the 2004 event,
please visit <http://www.tlu.edu/events/krost/>.

Please send a 250 word abstract by March 25, 2005 to tprice_at_tlu.edu
describing your proposed contribution.
