The MLA Division on Non-fiction Prose, Excluding Auto-biography is hosting
a panel on the work of Olive Schreiner. Papers can focus on any aspect of
the letters, political tracts, or essays in which Olive Schreiner
introduces and expounds upon her social ideas, ideas she developed in
conversation with other revolutionary and sometimes infamous intellectuals
of her era. The panel may explore, for instance, Schreiner's opposition to
Cecil Rhodes' colonialist activities in Africa, her analysis of England's
involvement in the Anglo-Boer War, her involvement with women's suffrage
groups, or her pacifism at the outbreak of World War I. Please send
abstracts by March 15, via email, to Robin Hackett
(rhackett_at_cisunix.unh.edu). Queries welcome.
