Modernist Studies Association 7th Annual Conference
November 3-6, 2005
Chicago, Illinois
Proposed panel: Modernist Impersonality
How is style related to the modernist preoccupation with impersonality? Is
style always personal, even when impersonal? Why do virtually all of the
modernists develop some conception of the impersonal in their philosophies
of art? And how do these various formulations differ, both in theory and
practice? Consideration of particular authors and genres as well as
primarily theoretical and comparative approaches to the topic are both
welcome.
