CFP Religious Awareness and Expression in English
Poetry 1875-2005 (6/15/2005; 12/2-3/2005). Paris IV-Sorbonne, Paris,
France.
The religious dimension has been a decisive - and possibly
somewhat overlooked - factor of English poetic
expression of the modern period. The aim of the
conference is therefore to draw attention to
and, above all, fill a gap in criticism of
English poetry of the period. Religious
awareness and experience have a crucial
influence on poetics and literary language, and
the latter is renewed by religious culture.
