Call for Papers
Midwest Modern Language Association - Nov 10-13, Milwaukee, WI
Papers are requested that deal with representations of trauma in film. While
trauma theory has become increasingly popular in the last decade or so in
terms of literature, there is still relatively little work done on trauma as
represented (or not represented) in film. How does film - as distinct from
other art forms - address the difficulties of representing what has been
called unrepresentable? How do mise-en-scene, editing, music/sound effects,
cinematography, etc. affect the possibilities for representing traumatic
material, not simply on the level of content but also the rhythms, gaps,
tensions of trauma on a structural level.
Please send abstracts of approximately 250 words to beadling_at_purdue.edu by
April 20.
Thanks
Laura Beadling
