UPDATE:
Women=92s Caucus of the Midwest Modern Language Association
2005 Conference, Nov. 10-13, Pfister Hotel, Milwaukee
Call expanded--second session added!
Forty years ago when we began to talk about =93the poetry of rock,=94 =
the=20
work of several (usually male) songwriters got a lot of serious=20
attention and English-major-style analysis. Since then we=92ve seen an=20=
expansion of ways of reading and of ideas about text. What=20
texts--literary, musical, visual--have rock women been reading and how=20=
do these texts influence their writing--words, music or both? What=20
does a close reading of an important song (or two) do for our=20
understanding and enjoyment? What can we learn about these writers=92=20=
creative process and quality of mind? Finally, what special reading=20
and writing happens when the source text comes from another rock woman?=20=
Papers will examine specific works closely, trace sources, and draw=20
conclusions.
