Proposals are invited for papers, discussion panels, performances, and
presentations on any aspect of television, radio, or communications for
the Popular Culture Association in the South/American Culture
Association in the South Conference to be held October 6-8, 2005, at the
Sea Turtle Inn, Jacksonville, Florida. Audience studies, auteur studies,
textual studies, historical contextualizations, studies of the impact of
technology on communication; Amos, Andy, and ethnicity; Buffy and
gender; Columbo, Dickens, and the detective; Edward R. Murrow and the
vocalization of morality; Fibber McGee and Molly and class; Good Times
and the Norman Lear social comedy--all television/radio/communications
topics are welcome, from early twentieth-century up through today's
Lost, Deadwood, or Veronica Mars and Fresh Air or Howard Stern. Send
proposal title, abstract of 100-150 words, and requests for audio-visual
equipment (VCR/Monitor, DVD player, overhead projector, or slide
projector only) to the Area Chair address listed below by May 15.
Several sessions will be arranged in this area.
