Call for Papers: Environment and Culture
The Environment and Culture Panel of the 2005 Mid-Atlantic Popular/American Culture Association (MAPACA) conference welcomes abstracts of papers (200-250 words) that discuss the environment within the context of popular culture. Environment and Culture as an area explores the various ways in which the environment shapes and is shaped by human action/interaction with the natural world. Papers may address both theoretical and practical aspects of environment and culture. Papers from all disciplines and historical periods are invited, and papers from graduate students are encouraged. Appropriate topics include, but are not limited to:
Contemporary environmental crises The arts and the environment Environmental philosophy Land use/abuse Natural history Politics and the environment Studies of particular environments Technology and the environment The urban and suburban environments.
Deadline for submissions is June 20, 2005.

The conference meets at the Hyatt Regency, New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Meeting dates are November 4-6, 2005.
