and Culture
November 10-13, 5005, Milwaukee, WI

The American Literature I panel of the Midwest Modern Language Association is
seeking proposals for the panel Fashionable Bodies: Women, Dress, and Status
in 19th c. American Literature and Culture. The panel invites papers that
examine the relationship between fashion, culture, and identity. Approaches may
include (but are note limited to) the following topics:
- fashion and travel
- the politics of pleasure
- fashion/style as resistance
- visual arts/visuality
- fashion and trickery/disguise
- style, fashion, and race
- economies of fashion

Please submit abstracts of 500 words in the body of an email to Dr. Michelle
Taylor, taylorm5_at_muohio.edu by July 1, 2005.
