Call For Papers, Cork Film Festival, Ireland.

To commemorate our 50th anniversary, and to celebrate Cork¹s selection as
the 2005 European Capital of Culture, Cork Film Festival will host an
international Symposium on the short film. Cork Film Festival has long been
a champion of this neglected art form, and is delighted to host this
Symposium which will comprise of a keynote address by Jonathan Rosenbaum and
Richard Raskin plus panel discussions, papers and plenary sessions.

The tone of this Symposium will fuse a forum of academic and critical rigor
with a convivial atmosphere which will give the opportunity for
entertainment and social interaction.

The process of devising the symposium is an organic one, and it will remain
open to be shaped by further advice and direction. Therefore, we wish now to
invite interested academics and enthusiasts to address this Call For Papers

Instructions for Submission of Abstracts

Brief abstracts (appox 250 words) should be emailed to
symposium_at_corkfilmfest.org, before the date listed below. Summarise the
concepts that you would like to address within the symposium. Please do not
feel constrained by the list of concepts below which are initial topics only
- you do not have to suggest a topic 'to fit' them.

Approach the current outline laterally. If you feel the topic you would like
to discuss falls outside the current topic - by all means, write an abstract
and argue a case for its inclusion.

Currently, the central concepts to be covered within the Symposium include:

    - An evaluation of the history of short filmmaking
    - How the language of short films has changed over the past fifty
      years/analysis of aesthetics.
    - Structure and aesthetics of exemplary short films.
    - The short film as a vehicle to engage with contemporary political
      discourse.
    - Digital distribution; potential delivery devices what will this mean
      for filmmakers, festivals and audiences.
    - The future for short filmmaking
