Panel: Oedipus Now
For this panel, I seek papers examining the genesis, development, and the cultural, political, and artistic implications of Freud's theory of the Oedipus complex. The scope of the panel is, perforce, quite broad; papers on clinical practices, community issues, and critical theory are welcome. Some possibilities (particularly the ones that address, in different ways, the general theme of community) include but are not limited to: new approaches to/readings of the foundational Freudian texts on Oedipus; race, gender, sexuality, and national identity through the Oedipal lens; psychoanalytic readings of literature, film, and the visual arts; issues in (auto)biography.
