CFP: Panel Discussion on End of Evangelion (8/6/05; 11/5/05)

The Student Union at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee will be
hosting a panel discussion of the film, End of Evangelion, the
controversial conclusion of Hideaki Anno's series, Neon Genesis
Evangelion, as part of its semester-long celebration of comics,
graphic novels, and animated films. The event is planned for Saturday,
November 5, with a screening of the film at 1 PM to be followed by the
panel. Please send proposals of 300-500 words to Peter Y. Paik at
pypaik_at_uwm.edu by August 6, 2005. Panelists are encouraged to cover
the following topics:

Hideaki Anno's sources/inspirations
Mythology of Evangelion
Feminism and EVA
The reception of Evangelion in Japan
The symbolism of the Kabbalah
Religious syncretism in anime and Japanese culture
Apocalypses, East
Comparative angelology
The politics of SEELE and NERV
Trauma, mourning, and melancholia
The technologies of the soul
Returning to the womb
