When did you last think about your values as a young academic? What is your role in shaping and framing knowledge?
The Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Education at the University of Glasgow, are hosting a two-day conference on the subject of
Theorising and Performing Knowledge: Teaching, Learning and Research (25-26 November 2005).
As research students, and potentially future academics, we have multiple responsibilities: to our students, our department, our university and our discipline. We believe that it is unsatisfactory to simply continue what has gone before us without analysing whether we feel comfortable with that: do we even agree with the beliefs and aims of our predecessors? Through presentations and interactive workshops, this conference aims to investigate both theoretical and practical aspects of teaching, learning and research in an attempt to develop rational and coherent attitudes to our many roles and responsibilities as academics.
Call for Papers: (We invite the submission of abstracts of about 250 words)
In light of the structure of the conference, papers are to be presented in one of two ways:
A. As examples of teaching practice, which will be explored and evaluated. The content of these presentations should educate the conference audience about any area of your research. Abstracts should include some reflection on the delivery style which will be employed. Delegates may choose to use their own teaching style or imitate an effective/ineffective style from their own experience.
B.Conference Papers. Topics could include (but are not restricted to) the future of HE, knowledge and power, critical thinking in HE, employability, agency, situated knowledge and performativity.
ALL PRESENTATIONS SHOULD BE 20 MINUTES
Fee & Bursaries: Participation in the conference is gratis. Moreover, bursaries will be offered for those travelling from outside Glasgow.
Abstracts with provisional titles to be submitted by 9 September 2005. Applicants will be notified shortly after.
