This academic conference is based on invited
presentations from scholars working on Jameson, and is
open to the wider academic community, including
graduate students. The aim is to make the scope and
importance of Jameson’s work more widely known. The
significance of Jameson’s fiction and her discursive
writings will be addressed as will her engagement with
the contested issues of her day. The symposium will
discuss some of the contexts in which Jameson's life
and work can be understood, including the inter-war
debates on the state of the English novel,
anti-militarism, French literary culture, the
literature of political commitment, autobiography, and
the writers' initiatives against European Fascism in
which Jameson was a key figure. Participants in the
round table discussions will engage with the dialogue
between Jameson and other twentieth-century writers
and intellectuals.
There will be three round table sequences of informal
presentations by contributors to a projected new book
of essays on Margaret Storm Jameson. Participants will
include: Jennifer Birkett, Chiara Briganti, Deborah
Gerrard, Mary Joannou, Kate McLoughlin and Sharon
Ouditt. This will be followed by an open discussion for
all interested in Jameson's work.
The organisers would be pleased to hear from others
who have worked on Jameson and wish to speak. Please
e-mail one of the convenors explaining your interest
in Jameson if you would like to contribute or have any
questions.
