CFP: After the Modern Long Poem (4/30/07; MSA, 11/1/07-11/4/07)

Call for Papers: Proposed panel for the Modernist Studies Association =
Annual Conference, November 1-4, 2007 (Long Beach, CA)

One of the most visible aspects of Anglophone modern poetry is the =
prominence of the long poem; The Cantos, The Bridge, Trilogy, =93A=94, =
and Paterson are all obvious examples. Although much of contemporary =
poetry seems dominated by shorter, lyric-like works, the long or serial =
poem is central to =93otherstream=94 writing. How do these long or =
serial poems rework, extend, respond to, parody or ignore the modernist =
poem? Papers might consider works such as Ron Silliman=92s The Alphabet, =
Rachel Blau du Plessis=92 Drafts, Nathaniel Mackey=92s Song of the =
Andoumboulou, Bruce Andrews=92 Lip Service, Beverly Dahlen=92s A =
Reading, and any number of works by Lyn Hejinian, Bernadette Mayer, =
Kenneth Goldsmith, John Ashbery and others.

Please send a brief vita and either a complete paper or abstract of =
