(Re)Presenting Genres: Shaping Minds Through Literature and Composition
Texas A&M University – Commerce will hold the 16th Annual English
Graduates for Academic Development (EGAD) conference on October 26, 2007.
EGAD is now accepting proposals for papers and panels dealing with
contemporary issues in academia. We welcome submissions from all areas of
academic discourse including, but not limited to: English, History,
Journalism, Political Science, Education, Psychology, and Sociology.
Submissions should be made by September 21, 2007. Registration materials
will be sent upon acceptance to the conference. Panels will be organized
by topic.

Scott McCloud will be this year’s keynote speaker. McCloud is the author
of Understanding Comics Reinventing Comics, and Making Comics, a brand new
release. In recent years, Scott has given visual lectures on Comics and
Technology at computer events, corporations, universities, museums, film
and music festivals and government organizations. Topics include Comics
Storytelling, Online Comics and most recently, Japanese Comics. Visuals
include a cascade of fast-changing images (using Powerpoint, but just for
pictures and diagrams, rather than the usual sleep-inducing bulleted list)
and browser demos from local files. Scott also hooks up his drawing tablet
so that he can sketch live on-screen when the presentation calls for it.
His past lecture stops include Harvard University, MIT, The Smithsonian,
