Theater on the Move: Drama Crossing Cultures
Special Session

How does theater in the contemporary world serve as a means of
communicating culture across borders, and what is the particular value of
live theater today as a medium for intercultural exchange? This panel seeks
papers exploring the dynamics of dramatic work moving outside its original
cultural context -- theater in translation, theatrical tours, plays and
playwrights outside their home cultures, re-inventions of the dramatic
canon for new audiences. How does such movement convey or recast dramatic
texts and with what cultural and political ramifications? 250-word
abstracts for 15 minute presentations by April 25, 2008 to Maria Doyle,
University of West Georgia (mdoyle_at_westga.edu). Presenters must be
members of SAMLA by the time of the convention.
