CFP: [20th] Papier/Papel/Carta at Modernist Studies Association 2008

I am seeking proposals for a panel at the upcoming Modernist Studies
Association Conference (Nashville, November 2008) that examines paper as a
global medium of modernism. How did the (venerable, changing, ubiquitous)
medium shape modernist experiment? Recycled and scrapped, gilded and pulp,
material of design and bureaucratic function -- how does thinking about
paper (as material, commodity, or object of representation) alter our
understanding of modernism’s media and its mediated globalism? Please send
