CFP: [African-American] Edited anthology on Contemporary Slave Narratives

Call for Papers for Edited Anthology
Dredging Up Slavery:
Representations of Slavery in Contemporary Popular Culture

Though it has been over a century since it was outlawed in the U.S.,
slavery continually recurs as a theme in literature and other aspects of
American popular culture. Thus, this edited collection seeks to gather
essays that explore how the spectre of slavery appears and/or is rewritten
through a contemporary or even futuristic lens in popular culture. We
seek essays that examine this theme in literature, film, television,
music, graphic novels or comics, contemporary biography or autobiography,
etc.

Please send a 500-word abstract of proposed essays along with a cv to the
editors at dredgingupslavery_at_gmail.com by December 1, 2008. Inquiries may
also be directed to the editors at this email address. Although email
submissions are preferred, abstracts may also be sent to:
