Special ABC issue “For the Love of the Good: Mediations on the Mind and
Manners of Iris Murdoch”

Dear colleague(s):

The Academic Anglophone Society of Romania based at Lucian Blaga
University, Sibiu seeks contributions for the forthcoming issue of its
periodical, ABC [American, British and Canadian] studies. Recently
re-launched in refashioned, biannual format, ABC is an international,
peer-reviewed journal that sets out to explore disciplinary developments in
Anglophone Studies in the changing environment forged by the intersections
of culture, technology and electronic information. Our primary goal is to
bring together in productive dialogue scholars conducting advanced research
in the theoretical humanities. As well as offering innovative approaches to
influential crosscurrents in current thinking, the journal seeks to
contribute fresh angles to the academic subject of English and promote
shape-changing research across conventional boundaries. By virtue of its
dynamic and varied profile and of the intercultural dialogue that it caters
for, ABC aims to fill a gap in the Romanian academic arena, and function as
the first publication to approach Anglophone studies in a
multi-disciplinary perspective. To respond to the increasing demands of
‘acceleration’ in the twenty-first century, an electronic edition of the
journal is now being made available, offering full access to subscribers,
and free access to the tables of contents and abstracts of each issue to
non-subscribers. Tables of contents and sample full-text articles can be
viewed without a subscription and our search feature is publicly available.

Special Issue Announcement:

For this special issue, “For the Love of the Good: Mediations on the Mind
and Manners of Iris Murdoch,” we call for supplementary submissions on any
relevant topic dealing with the literary, philosophical, psychological or
theological aspects of the life-work of British philosopher and novelist
Iris Murdoch (a core of articles and a biographical introduction have
already been solicited from selected authors). Therefore, contributions
that seek to reveal any disciplinary interplay between Murdoch’s literary,
philosophical or theological authorial dimensions are particularly
encouraged. Co-editors for the special issue are Professor Eric Gilder of
LBUS and Professor Ana Lita of the International Humanistic Ethical Union,
New York.

Guidelines for Contributors:

ABC seeks quality submissions of work in the entire spectrum of the
humanities. The review process is blind: articles are sent out to subject
specialists for reviewing anonymously and we leave it up to the reviewers
to choose whether or not to reveal themselves to you. You are strongly
encouraged to submit exciting and broad-ranging original articles that have
not been published elsewhere, nor are currently under review in any other
refereed journal. We regret we are unable to accept multiple submissions.
You may submit papers that have been presented in conferences only if the
papers have been thoroughly revised or extended to engage a theme that fits
the ABC profile. A chief objective of the journal is to minimise the time
for paper processing and to expedite printing; therefore, electronic
submission of papers in final form is strongly recommended. Please email
your contribution as an attachment in Word 97-2000 format (with clear
notation in the Subject Line) to abc.journal_at_ulbsibiu.ro before the closing
date. Alternatively, manuscripts should be sent in triplicate to the
Editorial Office (see address below) as hard copy and on CD ROM. If so,
submit three copies of your double-spaced, single-sided manuscript, along
with the originals of illustrations, drawings, and tables. The first page
of the manuscript should carry the title, names of authors, institutional
affiliations, a brief but detailed 200-word abstract, and seven key words.
The normal word-limit for articles is 7500 words including notes. Please
also include a brief 200-word biography for our Notes on Contributors along
with contact information. Only the materials styled according to the latest
(6th) edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers will be
considered for publication. For detailed instructions for preparing your
contribution and a sense of format, topics of interest to us and targeted
audience, you may wish to consult the journal’s previous issues and style
files at http://abcjournal.ulbsibiu.ro. Contributions can include articles,
in-depth interviews with both established and emerging thinkers and
writers, notes on groundbreaking research, reviews of recently published
fiction and reference works. Please email us if you have any queries. For
this special issue, preliminary questions about proposed submissions should
be directed to both eric.gilder_at_ulbsibiu.ro and adriana.neagu_at_ulbsibiu.ro.

For consideration for this special December issue, please send final
submissions by October 15, 2007.
