The SW/TX PCA/ACA annual conference represents one of the nation's
largest gatherings of interdisciplinary scholars. The Science Fiction
and Fantasy Area is one of the largest areas at the SW/TX PCA/ACA and has
had especially fine presentations. There have been multiple successful
panels on the work of Joss Whedon (eight in 2007, including a performance
piece). The Area Chairs of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Area again
invite paper and panel proposals on the special topic of Joss Whedon's
work, including the comics, Buffy: TVS, Angel, Firefly, and Serenity.

We especially encourage presentations on:

Buffy’s transformation into comics (Buffy season 8)
The construction of place
Whedon’s work on comics: Buffy season 8, Astonishing X-Men, Runaways,
Fray, or Tales of the Vampires/Tales of the Slayers
Masculinity
socioeconomic class
sexuality
race
Firefly's transformation into Serenity
Teaching Joss Whedon’s work
All Whedonverse topics will be considered, however.

Deadline for proposal submissions: Extended to November 21, 2007. The
registration deadline is December 31, 2007. All participants must
register by that date or will not be permitted to present or appear in
the program.

Please send electronic queries, 250 word paper proposals, and 500 word
panel proposals to abuckman_at_csus.edu. Include full contact info (name,
institutional affiliation if any, snail mail address, phone and fax
numbers, and e-mail) for all participants, working titles for proposals,
as well as current curriculum vitae.
