CFP: [International] Betwixt and Between: the Politics of Recognition

Betwixt and Between: the Politics of Recognition - reassessing cultural encounter in
contemporary Europe and beyond.

April 30-May 1, 2008

It has been argued that the contemporary moment witnesses a crisis in Enlightenment models
of multiculturalism and integration, as well as the dangerous polarization of ethnic and religious
identities in the context of the so-called “war on terror.” In such a situation, new thinking about
the possibility of a politics of recognition is required. Proposals for twenty minute papers are
invited on the subject of recognition in any area of the human and social sciences, with a
particular focus on the dynamics of cultural encounter.
