I am currently in the final stages of putting together a collection
of essays on printing before the incorporation of the Stationer's
Guild, with special emphasis on William Caxton. I need two essays to
round out the collection.
The volume seeks to explore the relationships between fifteenth- and
early sixteenth-century print production and the consolidation of
English literary and political culture. It asks after the ways the
early printers' work produces new texts and new ideological
formations of nationalism, subjecthood and literary authority. More
broadly, it asks how a renewed examination of Caxton's work with the
press complicates the current debate on canon formation and
historical study.
All methodological approaches are welcome. For now just send a
title, a brief (300-500 word) abstract, and a scholarly bio.
Please email me off list at <wkuskin_at_stanford.edu>
Sincerely,
Wm.
