CFP: [Medieval] call for papers

"The Allegorical Tradition and Psychological Inquiry in the Middle Ages"

I am calling papers for a panel at the RSA conference in Los Angeles, 2009.
The panel invites papers which discuss the role of the medieval allegorical
tradition in providing an epistemic model for self-cognition. The panel
seeks to raise interest in the contribution of allegorical representations
of dissected minds to a body of epistemic inquiry into the nature of mental
processes.

Areas of interest include mental conflict, inner debate, the war within the
mind, representations of processes of self-cognition and of selves engaged
in an act of self-analysis. Both narrative and theatrical psychomachias and
personification allegories are welcome. The panel will be happy to provide
a meeting ground to specialists in the Church Fathers and the medieval
Latin tradition (especially Augustine, Prudentius and Boethius) and early
modern literatures in the vernacular.

Please send a 150-word abstract and a brief academic CV to Julia Staykova,
