We are accepting proposals for papers in English with a reading time of
15-20 minutes on the role/use of literature in mediating conflict and/or
its relationship to Christianity.
Conflict can occur at international, national, regional, local, domestic
and personal levels. Poetics may be broadly defined to include literary,
musical, and artistic works. The scope is not limited to a particular
place or time.

the artist as spokesman for peace
the struggle for Irish identity in Seamus Heaney’s poetry
the Soviet poet as mediator
the poet as conscientious objector in World War Two
the poet as mediator in Cromwell’s Protectorate
politics and poetry in Nineteenth-Century Australia
poetry as personal conflict therapy
Confessional poets' use of diction
Student papers will be considered.
Papers addressing the work of any of the featured poets are especially
welcome: Claudia Emerson (US), Chris Mann (South Africa), Valzhyna Mort
(Belarus).
