Dragonfire, a fully-interactive multimedia online magazine, is currently
accepting submissions for its Arts & Letters column. Dragonfire is
published through the Pennoni Honors College at Drexel University and will
launch the first week of July. Its award-winning staff hails from more than
30 countries and has worked (or is still working) on such publications as
Newsweek, The Economist, Time, CNN, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, The
New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and more.
Dragonfire publish twice per month with daily updates until January 2006,
when new issues will be published weekly. The site includes print, audio
and video stories on news, politics, law, business, technology, science,
medicine, health, culture, arts, entertainment and Philadelphia. It also
includes original works of fiction and poetry.
In addition, Dragonfire is proud to feature a unique column called Arts &
Letters, a space reserved for intelligent discourse about problems and
issues facing universities and higher education around the world. Academics
and university administrators -- not journalists -- may contribute up to
1,000 words plus a phoned-in audio commentary if they choose. Contributors
will receive a full byline and a short bio will also appear.
Examples of good column topics include: To digitize or not -- the fate of
the university library; What use is a liberal arts education?; Problems
facing female students in Eastern Europe. We encourage you to write in your
own voice and use anecdotes from your experience.
In addition, we are accepting submissions for original fiction, poetry,
screenplay and flash fiction.
Dragonfire intends to reach 250,000 unique page visits per issue during the
initial run; we will be partnering with various festivals and events for
promotions and marketing.
For more information and submission guidelines, please contact Amy Webb,
Editor In Chief, at amywebb_at_verizon.net. (Beginning in June, all
submissions must be made to the appropriate section editor.)
Cheers,
Amy Webb
