SciFi as Convoy: Tactics in Collection and Dispersion

Interested broadly in the movements of Science Fiction across media, this panel seeks papers
that address this genre (and its questionable boundaries) as a means to bring the future into the
present. According to Philip K. Dick, Science Fiction must “have a fictitious world; that is the first
step: It is a society that does not in fact exist.” If, however, it is nevertheless “predicated on our
known society,” then SciFi’s so-called innovations are inherently misleading and forever
grounded in the past. If this is the case (and we are not necessarily saying it is), then how does
SciFi escape the violence of repetition/replication and safely arrive in time?
